The wave of coronavirus is sweeping the neighboring country – Covid beds and ICUs are rapidly increasing
“The cases coronavirusin Italy, in this first week of July, were a hundred times more than the corresponding period last year”, said Enrico Coccioni, president of the Italian Regional Health Infrastructure Service, this evening. Cosioni emphasized, at the same time, that “the pressure of the new wave of coronavirus is increasing in the hospitals of the whole country” and that “the emergency departments are ready to explode”.
At the same time, the person in charge of Italy’s regional health infrastructure asked all of the country’s local governments to increase, once again, the beds for patients with Covid-19both in hospital wards and intensive care units.
Today in Italy 107,240 cases of coronavirus were registered and 94 people lost their lives. 13% of hospital beds are used to treat patients with coronavirus, while in ICUs the corresponding percentage is 4%. Last year, at the beginning of July, in ICUs and hospital wards, patients with Covid-19 did not exceed 2% of the total. Finally, in a total of 378,250 diagnostic tests, 28.3% were positive in the last twenty-four hours.
