Cyprus: Harvester crushed 2 men

According to the information so far collected by the police and the labor inspection department, the operator of the machine was harvesting a field of grain belonging to the 62-year-old firefighter, who was on pre-service leave.

A double tragedy occurred today in the village of Stroumbi Paphos. Just after 3pm harvester flattened its operator Nikos Dimosthenous, 53, from the village of Innia, and Panikos Ioannidis, 62, from the village of Stroumbi.

According to the information so far collected by the police and the labor inspection department, the operator of the machine was harvesting a field of grain belonging to the 62-year-old firefighter, who was on pre-service leave.

In his attempt to enter the main street of Stroubiu- I sat laden with the grain he had reaped, the heavy agricultural machine overturned on a rural uphill road, crushing both its operator and the owner of the field.

It is still unknown if the latter was inside the vehicle or outside it. The 62-year-old man was found dead outside the vehicle while the operator of the harvester was found under the machine and had to be extricated by the fire service.
