The Danish company Lego, the global giant in children’s toys, announced today that it is permanently stopping sales in Russia, due to the war in Ukraine. This decision concerns its 81 stores that were managed by a Russian company.

THE Lego “decided to indefinitely suspend its commercial activities in Russia” and “terminate its cooperation” with Russian distribution company Inventive Retail Group, which operated 81 stores bearing the brand’s name, a spokeswoman told AFP .

Lego will also lay off most of its Moscow-based employees.

In early March Lego had decided to stop toy deliveries to Russia, but stores remained open and continued to sell what was in their warehouses.

Inventive Retail Group confirmed that the partnership with Lego is ending and that it will continue its commercial activities “in the educational toys category”, without further clarification.

In early May, Russia placed Lego toys on a list of about 100 categories of goods, the import of which was also allowed without the permission of copyright holders.

Among these products are also Apple and Samsung mobile phones, cars, game consoles, as well as various materials used in industry.
