President Volodymyr Zelensky returned Russian-occupied coastal areas to Ukrainian troops.
Defense Minister Olexi Reznikov believes his army is ready to reclaim land of importance to the economy.
Reznikov explained how many veterans who emigrated out of Ukraine returned “to fight for their own country” and significantly increased the country’s workforce.
“Our army has about 700,000 people. With the National Guard, the police and the border guards, we have about 1 million people,” he told The Times.
In addition, two Ukrainian battalions are currently training in the UK as part of Boris Johnson’s commitment to train 10,000 soldiers every 120 days.
Reznikov believes that the rest of the Western world may have initially underestimated Ukraine’s determination to fight against the second strongest army in the world. But since then he has welcomed the help of those countries.
Ukrainians are “people of the free world and they have a real sense of justice and freedom,” he said.
Western support helped transform Ukraine’s 30-year-old Soviet-era weapons into standard NATO equipment in just three months.
Reznikov paid tribute to British Defense Minister Ben Wallace for it.
Ukraine recently withdrew the cities of Severodonetsk and Lysychansik from the breakaway Luhansk territories and placed them completely under Russian control.
However, Reznikov argues that the loss of these cities is a life-saving tactic.
Reznikov stressed that he was not worried about the wave of support after Johnson’s resignation, saying that Ukraine was “looking into the eyes of its partners.”
He states: “I am convinced that the anti-Kremlin coalition was born.
“Our partners in London, Washington and other capitals are investing in us with the expectation that their people will lose the Kremlin as well as the money. We are together in this war that we must win.”
