Draghi handed in his resignation last week after one of the political parties in the ruling coalition refused to support the government during a confidence vote

Mayors, business associations and labor union leaders in Italy urged Prime Minister Mario Draghi over the weekend to reconsider his decision to resign, warning that stability in the neighboring country was at risk because of its large foreign debt.

Draghi handed in his resignation last week after one of the political parties in the ruling coalition, the Five Star Movement, refused to support the government during a confidence vote.

President Sergio Mattarella rejected Draghi’s resignation and asked him to address parliament in the new week, hoping to reach some compromise to prevent early elections at a time of international instability and economic pressures.
