Climate crisis brings Megafires to vulnerable Mediterranean – Fiery inferno in France, Spain, Portugal

by

Huge fires have caused major problems in Spain and Portugal as well as in other parts of southern Europe, as can be seen from a relevant map published on social media by WWF

A phenomenon that for one more summer also concerns Greece are the devastating forest fires.

In recent years, the intensity and extent of these fires has increased dramatically, a result of climate change that has completely changed the situation not only in our country, but throughout Europe.

According to the international scientific community, summers are now hotter and more extensive, with the result that huge Megafires type fires break out in Mediterranean countries, which in previous years we used to see in countries like the USA and Australia.

Now, this phenomenon also hits France where thousands of people in the last 24 hours have been forced to leave their homes in order to save themselves.

At the same time, huge fires have caused correspondingly big problems in Spain and Portugal as well as in other parts of the European south, as can be seen from the relevant map published on social media by the WWF.

In particular, what has been happening in recent days in France, which is considered one of the most organized countries in preventing and dealing with fires, is according to the experts the greatest proof of how vulnerable the Mediterranean has now become to Megafires, due to the climate crisis.
