Former President Donald Trump refused to tell the country that the election was over after the Jan. 6 riots on Capitol Hill.
A copy of Trump’s January 7, 2021 speech at a Golden Time Commission hearing on January 6 showed that he refused to make any prepared statements about the election results.
“But this election is over,” Trump said as he read the prepared text.
Then he stopped and said, “I don’t want to say that the election is over. I just want to say that Congress confirmed the results without the election.”

Trump continued to study the text and changed it.
“‘Yesterday’ is a heavy word for me,” he said.

In another departure from the draft, Trump was hesitant to talk about what would happen if his supporters broke the law.
Trump read a scripted line. “I would like to start by dealing with yesterday’s horrific attacks, and anyone who breaks the law will pay.
But then he began to reason about it.
“You do not represent our movement, you do not represent our country. If you break the law”-I can’t say that, says Neck Shake. “I will not go, I already said: ‘You will pay'”.
“Protesters coming into the Capitol are running out of room,” Trump said, but noted that he was speaking incorrectly and slammed his hands into the speaker.

His daughter and Ivanka Trump, then a White House senior adviser, were heard from the camera to help him give his address.
The footage was shown at the end of the eighth and final scheduled hearing by the House Select Committee investigating the riots. The Commission focused on what Trump did during the 187 minutes of the riot, during which he claimed that he had abandoned his duties.
In conclusion, the members of the Commission said that they would continue to collect information on the events that took place around January 6 and would hold other hearings in September.
