A mother in Kentucky thought of winning a six-figure jackpot and immediately sharing the prize with 20 strangers and paying the prize.

Crystal Dan wagers $20 on Bankbuster Jackpot Instant Play, an online lottery game she plays for fun. According to a Kentucky Lottery press release, a few seconds after placing a bet, a message appeared on her computer that she had just won $146,351.74.

“I didn’t expect to win something like that, but this shows it can happen,” he said.

Three single mothers, Dan, 42, first knew what he wanted to do with that money as soon as he received an after-tax check for $103,909.73.

After that, I stopped by the Meyer grocery store chain and bought 20 $100 gift cards.

“I just received this wonderful gift and wanted to share it,” she told The Washington Post.

With the help of the supermarket staff, Dan began handing out gift cards to strangers who came into the store hoping to buy. Many strangers rejected the kind gesture, thinking that Dan wanted something in return.

“A lot of people were suspicious,” he said. Some even asked for a hug.

After a difficult upbringing, Dan, who was entrusted to a foster parent at the age of 9, ran away at the age of 16 and has been protecting himself ever since. Despite his childhood concerns, he is proud of the life he has built for himself.

“When I got the money, I was fine, so I wish it was someone else. I can take care of myself,” he said. “My dream. I didn’t expect this to happen.”

He then used this as an opportunity to spread his kindness and share his luck.

A Kentucky lottery official told the newspaper that he was impressed with the way Dan shared his prizes with others.

“He didn’t win millions of dollars,” said Chip Polston, senior vice president of communications for the Kentucky Lottery.

“He had the foresight to receive $2,000 and randomly return 20 people’s day at the grocery store,” he added.

Dan also plans to use his earnings on what he’s already working on, like buying a car or paying a bill.
