Putin: Expansion of NATO military infrastructure in Ukraine is a red line

by

Russian President Vladimir Putin said today that the expansion of NATO military infrastructure in Ukraine is a red line that he hopes will not be crossed, while expressing concern over military exercises being conducted near the Russian border.

“Creating such threats is a red line. But I hope things do not get there. “I hope that the sense of common sense, of responsibility for both their countries and the international community will prevail,” Putin said.

Speaking at an investment forum in Moscow by VTB Capital – “Russia is calling!”, Putin said Russia-West relations were “idyllic” in the 1990s, but despite Moscow’s pleas and warnings, NATO reached the Russian border. “In response, we had to start building a supersonic weapon. “This is our response.”

Referring to the new supersonic missile, he said that Russia has already developed it and will soon be in its arsenal. “We have tried now, and successfully, and by the beginning of the year we will already have a new Mach 9 supersonic missile in our arsenal,” Putin said.

Earlier, the United States and Britain had warned Russia of any new military action against Ukraine as NATO met to discuss Moscow’s plans to mobilize troops on the border with the former Soviet republic.
