Zelensky accuses Russia of “terrorism” by instrumentalizing natural gas

“All this is being done deliberately by Russia, to make it as difficult as possible for the Europeans to prepare for winter,” the Ukrainian president said, adding that it is “an open gas war that Russia is waging against a united Europe “.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Moscow of using gas cuts to spread terror in Europe and urged the EU to impose new sanctions on Russia.

“All this is being done deliberately by Russia, to make it as difficult as possible for Europeans to prepare for winter. And this is an open gas war that Russia is waging against a united Europe,” he said.

“They don’t care what will become of the people, how much they will suffer from hunger because of the blockade of the ports or from the cold of winter and poverty. Or from possession. These are just different forms of terrorism,” added the Ukrainian president.

The new reduction in the flow of natural gas through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline is seen as Moscow’s retaliation to European countries for their support for Kyiv.

Ukraine’s president has argued that blackmailing Moscow with natural gas is an “incentive to make the EU’s eighth package of sanctions much stronger” against Russia.
