The snake’s owner was killed after an 18-foot-long pet Boa Constrictor wrapped itself around his neck.

Elliott Senseman, 27, of Fogelsville, Pennsylvania, was found by police in his home around 2 p.m. Sunday. Police were called home after receiving reports of a man with a snake around his neck and in cardiac arrest.

“Our officers responded and fired at us in hopes of freeing the victims,” Upper Macangie Township Police Lt. Peter Nikisher told Lee High Valley Live.

He also said that the police were unaware of the location of the attack.

“Because of the difficult situation, there were no extended interviews on the site about snakes, their origins or anything like that,” Nikisher said.

His mother, Heather, told the newspaper: “My son is unique and lovable and needs to be with family and friends.”

Senseman is an experienced snake handler who has been dealing with animals since he was 10 years old. A family member told The Daily Beast.

The police found two more snakes and some other animals in the house. Senseman was known for rescuing abandoned or abused pet snakes and placing them in new homes. According to the family, this particular snake was ignored and mistreated.

“I was still working on it because I was too aggressive to roll it out,” Heather said.

Boa constrictors are popular pets and are often advertised as safe and low maintenance. However, according to his mother, Senseman wanted people to be aware of the risks.

“Too many people come across these snakes and can’t handle or care for them,” the snake said. “It shouldn’t be bred for pets. I wanted them in a habitat as close to their natural environment as possible because they couldn’t be placed in the wild.”

Senseman was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital in Sea Dark Crest, where he died of anoxic brain injury, when there was a complete lack of oxygen to the brain, the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office said.
