A 44-year-old principal who repeatedly had sex with a 16-year-old student in his family has been banned for life.

Two Birmingham parents, Andrew Sims, were suspended from Kingshurst CTC University in Solihar in January 2018 after being accused of behaving sexually inappropriately towards two girls at school.

One of the girls, known only as Student A, reported to another teacher that she had received a frivolous message from The Sims.

He also claimed to have had sex with a second girl named Student B.

The Disciplinary Action Commission began investigating Sims, who enrolled at the school in 2014 before being promoted to dean.

Student B describes “years” and “normal teacher-student relationships” with The Sims until he reveals more about his personal life.

He then began talking to her more and “checking in” with her regularly, the panel said, and turned into a discussion about their family life.

He said he noticed other students “paying more attention to him,” knew the changes when he started arguing with his classmates, and only talked to other students. ..

The panel said: “One day, student B went to talk to Mr. Sims in the engineering room office and noticed that there was a bar in the office.

“Student B tried to use the bar, but Mr. Sims pushed him up and lowered his hand.”

In another case, Sims left the room with Snapchat open and her phone unlocked on her desk, prompting the girl to enter her account name.

He then texted her “like it was someone else” but she said “I quickly knew it was him” and they exchanged messages “frequently”.

Student B then texted The Sims saying he could meet up because his dad was away.

The 44-year-old responded that he would leave the gym early to pick her up and arrive in “shorts and a vest.”

The panel heard: “They returned to Mr. Sims’s house and sat down for a cup of tea. After that, Mr. Sims took Student B upstairs, began kissing and provoked sexual activity.

“Student B continued to meet Mr. Sims and explained that he would often go to his house and have sex with Mr. Sims when his wife was working at night.

“This included buying clothes that Sims would wear when she was with him.”

Their relationship continued after the girl transferred to another college, but she said, “especially after Mr. Sims got married and started a family, and also because she was interested in another guy. I started to feel guilty.”

They stopped having sex in December and continued to text until they stopped communicating the following month.

Sims was unable to appear in front of the panel but did make a statement early in the investigation.

He admitted that he had “consensus-based inappropriate sexual relations” with student B, but because they were “dealing with a teenage girl,” “it was probably exaggerated and conscious.” There is a risk of dispersion,” he told the panel.

At first, the girl “didn’t think she had done anything really wrong,” but after counseling, “she was well aware that the relationship between the two of them was inappropriate.”

Sims also admitted that he had sent student A a message, calling her “beautiful” and saying, “I offer to go out with her, but I don’t know if I can trust myself after a previous conversation.”

He admitted the comment was “highly inappropriate” but claimed that what he “deeply regrets” was a “stupid, stupid mistake.”

In one of the statements, he said: “I don’t make excuses for my actions. I don’t want to tell you again.”

Citing Sims’ “repeated” illegal activity and lack of “reflection and understanding of his actions”, the board banned him from teaching for life.
