Almost six out of 10 Belgians are in favor of compulsory vaccination for all, according to a poll published today, Wednesday, by the French-language newspaper “Le Soir”.
In particular, according to the poll, 59% of Belgians are in favor of compulsory vaccination for all adults. The percentage is reduced to 46% when the question concerns minors 12-17 years old and to 37% for children under 12 years old. However, 45% of respondents who are parents of children under the age of 12 say they are ready to vaccinate their child if the vaccine is approved for this age group.
In addition, 66% of Belgians are in favor of compulsory vaccination for medical staff, with Dutch-speakers (70%) being more in favor of this obligation than French-speakers (61%).
The poll also records data on the use of the Covid Safe Ticket: only 43% of respondents are in favor of restrictions for those who do not have it and 36% consider it useful in combating the spread of the virus, although 49 % believe it encouraged vaccination.
“The Belgian press is focusing on the statements of the Prime Minister of Flanders, Jan Yabon, who called for the Consultative Committee to meet as soon as possible. immediately all indoor entertainment activities such as concerts, until December 15, to ensure that “we can celebrate Christmas and New Year in a more or less normal atmosphere”.
For his part, Health Minister Frank Vadenbruke said the data coming from the hospitals was very serious and agreed that the issue of indoor events should be addressed. As he noted, the convening of the Consultative Committee is the responsibility of the Prime Minister, Alexandre de Cro, with whom “we are ready to make decisions”.
The expert group will meet this afternoon to review the epidemiological situation and review the measures.
