Bulgaria: European programs of more than 735 million BGN in businesses by the end of the year

Depending on their size and needs, companies can receive from 35,000 to 700,000 leva for the purchase of equipment to create new production lines and new products. Support is expected to reach 700 to 1,000 companies

Micro, small and medium-sized enterprises in Bulgaria will be able to apply to join European programs worth 735 million leva by the end of the year, the press center of the Ministry of Innovation and Development announced.

The funds are part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan and the Operational Program “Innovations and Competitiveness in Businesses” (OPIC 2021-2027) of the Ministry of Innovation and Development.

These resources should be invested in new machinery and software, building renewable energy systems and energy storage facilities up to 1 MWh, improving information security, cyberspace, etc.

Companies can now submit their project plans to the first procedure under the Bulgaria Program – “Technological Modernization”.

It has a total budget of 260 million BGN and is aimed mainly at manufacturing companies – for medicines, computers or optical materials, food, beverages, clothing, etc. Also eligible for financing are companies active in the collection and disposal of waste or material recycling, film and television studios, radio, television and news agencies, as well as companies with architectural, engineering or research and development activities.

Another 3,000 businesses will be helped with the next four Recovery and Resilience Plan and OPIC processes. By the end of the summer, a grant program of 30.6 million leva will be launched for solutions in Information and Communication Technology. In the last quarter of the year, a program of 200 million leva will be opened for the construction of renewable energy systems for energy production. Greater energy self-sufficiency of businesses is expected to be achieved. An additional 118 million BGN will be invested in small and medium-sized enterprises that have been awarded the Seal of Excellence in the European Innovation Council competitions. These companies will be able to develop innovation activities such as prototyping and demonstration of technologies.

More internal research and innovation will be funded through a pilot process under OPIC. It will have a budget of 127 million leva and is expected to start at the end of the year. It will be open to businesses in the manufacturing sector.
