According to the “Political Barometer” of the second channel of the German public television ZDF, 58% of respondents estimate that the government is doing “too little” to relieve citizens from the consequences of the energy crisis, on the contrary, 30% believe that it is doing ” exactly what is needed”, while 5% estimate that the state gives “too much”.
In the same poll, 40% anticipate that in a year from today their financial situation will be worse, while only 9% expressed this opinion in January. On the contrary, 49% consider their financial situation unchanged (73% in January). An improvement is expected by 10% (16% in January).
In terms of trying to wean off Russian energy, accelerating the use of renewable energy sources is approved by 93% of respondents. 63% agree with extending the operation of nuclear power plants and 61% with the use of lignite.
Despite the increase in prices however, 71% of citizens still agree with supporting Ukraine, with 20% expressing the opposite view. At the same time, only 26% state that they believe in victory over Russia, with 59% answering negatively and 15% not expressing an opinion.
In terms of voting intention, the Christian Union (CDU/CSU) and the Greens share first place with 26%, while the Social Democratic Party loses two points to 19%. The Alternative for Germany (AfD) gathers 12% (+1), the Liberals (FDP) 7% (+1) and the Left 4% (–1), falling short of the 5% threshold required for entry in the Bundestag.
The most popular politicians are top ministers of the Greens: Economy Minister Robert Habeck, Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock, Agriculture Minister Cem Ezdemir. Chancellor Olaf Solz is only in fourth place.
For the coronavirus pandemic, 49% consider the situation “problematic” as “very problematic”, while 50% “not so problematic” or “not at all problematic”. 65% nevertheless state that if a new wave of the pandemic occurs in the autumn, stricter containment measures should be taken. 74% of the respondents consider the closing of schools and 68% the lockdown correct.
