“At the invitation of President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the secretary general will be in Lviv on Thursday to participate in a tripartite meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Ukrainian leader“, said Stéphane Dujarric at a press conference, clarifying that Antonio Guterres will travel to Odessa on Friday and then visit Turkey.
It is expected to be a dominant theme in the tripartite grain exports from Ukrainian ports which resumed under the recent UN-brokered agreement. UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric added that Guterres will also discuss with Zelenskiy the safety of the nuclear power plant in Zaporizhia and prospect of finding a diplomatic solution to end the war.
After the Russian blockade of three Black Sea ports was lifted, it became possible to export hundreds of thousands of tons of grain from Ukraine. The United Nations has emphasized that the agreement alleviates the worsening global food crisis.
On Saturday, the UN secretary-general will visit the Joint Coordination Center in Istanbul – made up of officials from Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and the United Nations, which oversees grain and fertilizer exports.
