According to the announcement of the US Treasury Department, the two officials discussed, in the telephone conversation they had, the ongoing efforts to implement sanctions against Russia.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Wally Antegemo told his Turkish counterpart Yunus Elitas today that Russian entities and individuals are trying to use Turkey to circumvent Western sanctions over the war in Ukraine.

According to the announcement of the US Treasury Department, the two officials discussed, in the telephone conversation they had, the ongoing efforts to implement sanctions against Russia.

The Turkish Finance Ministry, for its part, said Elitas underlined Ankara’s deep economic and political ties with both Russia and Ukraine, but assured Antegemos that Turkey would not allow sanctions to be violated.

“Elitas confirmed that Turkey’s position has not changed regarding the current procedures and sanctions, but will not allow any institution or person to violate the sanctions,” the Turkish ministry added in its statement.
