The Turkish foreign minister also spoke of “Turks of Western Thrace”, while bringing up the issue of the demilitarization of the islands.
“The solution of the Eastern Mediterranean issue actually depends on the sharing of revenues in Cyprus. That is 50% of the issue. The fair distribution of revenues” said the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusogluspeaking to Turkish network Haber Global.
As reported by the SKAI correspondent in Istanbul, Manolis Kostidis, the Turkish Foreign Minister stated: “Indeed our continental shelf extends to these blocks, but the point where drilling is taking place is further south than the southern limit of our continental shelf. Already we do not allow them to enter our continental shelf.
As a result the southern and western limits of our continental shelf are visible. To the west we left the Greek islands and territorial waters of 6 miles. We operate in accordance with international law. And within our continental shelf we continue drilling and seismic surveys.
There are also the areas that ‘TDBK’ has licensed us. In the past we have done work there and in the future it will be done.”
Then, Mevlut Cavusoglu attacked Greece Saying that “first he must stop making black propaganda and speaking against Turkey. He’s still lobbying against the F-16.”
In fact, he also spoke of “Turks of Western Thrace”, while bringing up the issue of the demilitarization of the islands. He specifically said:
“They all refer to international law, but the ‘Turks of Western Thrace’ are persecuted and their rights are violated. They also violate the demilitarization regime of the islands. They do this relying on the EU, but our hands are not empty either. Greece must stop these policies. As long as Greece practices this policy, it makes no sense to relax towards them. We don’t fight with Greece every day, but there is no honesty. There is no benefit in dialogue when there is no honesty.”
In particular for the F-16 he stated that “Mrindeed there was an action in Congress by the Greek lobby, basically by a member of Congress of Greek origin. However, the decision is not binding.”
He emphasized that Ankara will not buy F-16s if there are conditions on their use: “The (US) government knows that we will not get F-16s or any other product if we are handcuffed. If we are to take something, we will take it to use it. Why get a system we won’t be able to use. And we expect the government, based on its positive attitude towards the F-16s, to convince the Congress as well”.
