Russia puts an end to natural gas deliveries to Germany through the Nord Stream

by

Gazprom has cut gas deliveries via Nord Stream by 80% in recent months.

The natural gas deliveries from Russia to Germany via the pipeline Nord Stream stopped early this morning due to maintenance work, as announced by the Russian state energy giant Gazprom.

Gazprom had warned of suspending natural gas deliveries via Nord Stream for “essential” work at a compression station on the pipeline that links gas fields in Siberia to northern Germany, from where it is exported to other European countries. According to the announcement of the Russian company, the maintenance work is scheduled to last until Saturday morning.

Since the outbreak of war in Ukraine, energy has been at the center of a standoff between Russia and the West, which often accuses Moscow of using natural gas as a “weapon”.

Gazprom has reduced natural gas deliveries via Nord Stream by 80% the last months.

According to the head of Germany’s federal energy regulator, Klaus Muller, the work to be done on the pipeline “is technically incomprehensible”, which he called a pretext for Moscow to increase pressure on Ukraine’s allies.
