The Obamas return to the White House on September 7

Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, will return on September 7 to the White House, to revive a tradition that was not observed during the presidency of Donald Trump: the presentation of their official portraits.

President Joe Biden – former vice president of Barack Obama – and his wife Jill will welcome the couple at 1:30 p.m., local time, in one of the living rooms of the White House.

It’s the second time the Democratic ex-president, who remains hugely popular in the party, has returned to the no. 1600 block of Pennsylvania Ave. In April he participated in an event dedicated to health spending.

US tradition calls for the president to invite his predecessor and his wife to the official installation of their portraits at the White House. Trump, who often flouted protocol and launched attacks against the first African-American president, did not.

According to US media, he also moved the official portraits of Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. These paintings were located in the entrance hall of the White House and as custom dictates, the best seats are reserved for the last two holders of the office.

But the Republican businessman president moved them to a room in the presidential residence that is not used much.

Portraits of the “first ladies” adorn a long corridor on the ground floor of the White House.
