In his nightly speech, the Ukrainian president thanked the Ukrainian forces for liberating a settlement in the eastern Donetsk region, for capturing “some heights” in the eastern region in the direction of Lisitsansk-Syversk, as well as for liberating two more settlements in the south of country.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today that Ukrainian forces have taken control of two settlements in southern Ukraine, a third in the east and additional territory in the eastern part of the country.
He did not say exactly where the lands were or when they were retaken, except that he received “good reports” at a meeting today from military commanders and intelligence chiefs.
In his nightly address via video link, Zelensky thanked Ukrainian forces for liberating a settlement in the eastern Donetsk region and seizing “some heights” also in an eastern area in the direction of Lisitsansk-Siversk, and for liberating two southern settlements.
Kirill Tymoshenko, the president’s deputy chief of staff, earlier posted a photo showing soldiers raising the Ukrainian flag over a village said to be in the southern region that is the main focus of the counterattack.
“Vysokopila. Kherson region. Ukraine. Today,” Tymoshenko wrote in a Facebook post over a photo of three soldiers on rooftops, one of them placing the Ukrainian flag on a post.
North of the Crimean peninsula, which Moscow seized and annexed in February and March 2014, the Kherson region has been occupied by Russian forces in the current conflict.
Pro-Russian separatists from the Luhansk region seized Lisitsansk in early July as part of a battle for the Donbass region in eastern Ukraine, which also includes Shiversk.
