Prince William and Kate have moved into their new home on the grounds of Windsor Castle for their first week back at school.
The family decided to leave Kensington Palace in London.
Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis will attend Lambrock School near Ascot in Berkshire, which will cost around £50,000 a year.
Kate was photographed driving past her new country house in Adelaide this morning.
The Queen gave them permission to lease a Grade II listed four-bedroom house from the Crown Estate.
A royal official commented on the decision when it was announced, saying: “This is a decision made by both parents to give their children the ‘most normal’ start possible.
‘[Kensington Palace] Maybe a small fish tank.
“They wanted George, Charlotte and Louis to have a little more freedom than central London.
“It’s a very child-driven decision.”
Renovated in 2013 with £4.5m of taxpayers’ money, the couple retain Kensington Palace’s Apartment 1A, but it is currently only used as a work base for palace staff.
The two will also maintain the 10-bedroom Anmer Hall in Norfolk as a house with a swimming pool and tennis courts donated by the Queen.
However, the couple’s downsizing of Adelaide Cottage means the nanny, Maria Teresa Turion Bolaro, will be living elsewhere for the first time, as will the rest of the staff, including housekeepers and chefs.
A royal source claimed that the couple are aware of the cost of living crisis that everyone else is going through.
They said:
“If they were based in Norfolk it would be very difficult to continue working for the royal senior team.”
“Basically what they’ve done is allow them to put their kids first, but also allow them to continue doing what they do every day, all day long.”
Meanwhile, Prince Harry and Meghan will land in the UK soon, staying at Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor Estate, just half a mile from Prince William and Kate.
Siblings are not expected to see each other, even if they get along.
