Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend the large-scale military training exercises being held in the Russian Far East involving several countries, including China, Russian media reported.

These high schools are taking place at a time when the tension between Russia and the West is heightened due to the war in Ukraine, as well as between the US and China due to Taiwan.

Putin arrived in Sergeyevsky, one of the areas where the military gymnasiums, dubbed Vostok-2022, will be held, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

“A closed-door meeting is underway” with Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and the head of the Russian armed forces, Valery Gerasimov, Peskov said, adding that Putin “will be able to watch the final phase of the high schools” after the meeting.

The Vostok-2022 exercises began last Thursday with warplane maneuvers, air defense unit movements and mine clearance simulations in the Sea of Japan, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.

According to Moscow, more than 50,000 military personnel, more than 5,000 weapons and military equipment — including 140 aircraft and 60 warships and general support ships — are participating in the training centers.

Many of Russia’s allied and neighboring countries, such as Belarus, Syria, India and China, participate in them.

High schools will end tomorrow, September 7th.
