For the first time in her 70-year reign, the 96-year-old queen did not receive the country’s new leader at Buckingham Palace but at her summer residence, Balmoral Castle

Another… changing of the guard in Britain’s political scene took place today before Queen Elizabeth, who accepted the resignation of Boris Johnson as Prime Minister and instructed Liz Truss to form a new government.

However, although for the 96-year-old queen it was the umpteenth time (lost count) of this process, it was the first time in her 70-year reign that the 96-year-old Elizabeth who did not receive the new leader of the country at Buckingham Palace but at her summer residence at Balmoral Castle due to her mobility issues.

The outgoing Johnson arrived at Balmoral to formally tender his resignation, which was accepted by the monarch, accompanied by his wife.

Then, a short time later, Queen Elizabeth welcomed Liz Truss by appointing her to the position of Prime Minister and instructing her to form a government.
