New PM vows to cut taxes to bring in jobs and investment – New deal for Northern Ireland deal

London, Thanasis Gavos

On Thursday, she will present the package of measures she will take to reduce bloated energy bills for households and businesses in the UK Liz Trussas she announced at noon during her first appearance as Prime Minister in House of Commons.

He said the measures would give citizens the certainty that they would be able to get through the winter being able to pay their bills, which, without government intervention, it has been announced would reach £3,549 a year from October 1st.

According to Ms. Tras, the measures will also cover the issue of the country’s energy security in the long term. He referred indicatively to an increase in energy production from fossil fuels in the North Sea and to the expansion of nuclear energy production.

New Prime Minister he repeated, at the same time, that he will cut taxes in order to create jobs and bring investments to the country.

He also rejected a call by opposition party leaders and MPs to finance anti-energy precision measures with an extraordinary tax on energy companies’ surplus profits, saying such a move would deter business investment.

The main opposition Labor leader Sir Keir Starmer identified these additional gains to 170 billion pounds. He commented that the first action of the new Prime Minister will therefore be to proceed with higher than required government borrowing in order not to affect the surplus profits of the oil and gas companies.

Sir Keir also commented that there will be no change in the governance of the country, with the new Prime Minister having voted in all the measures that have brought the country to its current state.

As for tomorrow’s package of measures, the converging information from British political editors suggests that a freeze on energy bills will be announced at around £2,500 a year (from £1,971 today), possibly until the end of the current government’s term at the end of 2024.

This would rather be achieved by capping the wholesale price of natural gas purchased by energy companies, with the government covering the additional purchase cost.

Renegotiation of the Northern Ireland Protocol

Britain’s new Prime Minister Liz Truss said today she would prefer to reach a negotiated settlement with the European Union to resolve issues surrounding controversial rules governing post-Brexit trade with Northern Ireland.

The row over the Northern Ireland protocol is by far the biggest in a series of issues straining relations between the EU and Britain and could lead to a trade war if London goes ahead with legislation that effectively overturns some of the rules.

Truss introduced the legislation as foreign secretary, seeking to unilaterally scrap some controls on products from the rest of the UK, and said during the election campaign that she was determined to see the bill through.

“My preference is for a negotiated solution, but it would have to deliver on all the things we set out in the Northern Ireland Protocol Bill and what we cannot allow is this situation to drag on,” Truss told Parliament.

In his first comments as Northern Ireland minister, Chris Heaton-Harris earlier said he believed there was a “fairly clear point of convergence” for a deal.
