President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) regretted, this Thursday (8), the death of Elizabeth II, whom he called a “queen for all of us”, and decreed three days of mourning.

On social media, Bolsonaro called the monarch “an extraordinary and unique woman, whose example of leadership, humility and love for the country will continue to inspire us and the whole world until the end of time.”

The chief executive also said that “eternity” was surprised by the “glorious arrival of Her Highness the Queen of the United Kingdom”. And he ended with the expression: “GOD SAVE THE QUEEN”.

Shortly before, the government had already decreed three days of official mourning in an extra edition of the Diário Oficial da União.

The monarch died at the age of 96, after 70 years of reign, the longest in England. Her death was confirmed by Buckingham Palace after information that she was under medical care and that the closest family had been called to Balmoral, Scotland, where the Queen spent the summer.

According to an official statement, she died peacefully. The note refers to Charles as king and his wife, Camila, as queen consort.

Federal government ministers demonstrated on social media throughout this afternoon. The first was Fábio Faria, from Comunicações.

On Twitter, he called it a “big loss for everyone”, sharing an image of the royal family’s speech on social media.

“She was a leader who served as an example for many and fulfilled her life mission. May God comfort her family,” he said.

The Chief Minister of the Civil House, Ciro Nogueira, said that the queen lived through challenging periods in history. “Her trajectory leaves a legacy of dedication to her country. We stand in solidarity with all the people of Great Britain who are suffering the loss of a world symbol.”

Mines and Energy Minister Adolfo Sashsida wrote in English on Twitter to mourn Elizabeth’s death.

“The monarch united the British people during her long reign, which saw world wars and global crises. Elizabeth leaves a notorious legacy as one of the most respected leaders in history,” he wrote.

Days before the Queen’s death, in one of her last appearances, Elizabeth swore in the new British Prime Minister, Liz Truss.

Bolsonaro, last Tuesday (6), paid his respects to the new English leader. “Our people share an appreciation for sovereignty and freedom and will be able to accomplish much through cooperation,” he said on Twitter.

An international Brazilian government page on Twitter shared a photo of the queen in her honor.
