Six rangers carried Queen Elizabeth’s coffin from the ballroom at Balmoral Castle where it lay after her death on Thursday to the hearse that will take her to Edinburgh.

The oak casket is draped with the Royal Scottish flag and the wreath placed on it is made from the Queen’s favorite flowers, dahlias and musca peas.

The 280km journey will be completed after six hours, at 4pm local time, with the coffin being deposited in the Throne Room of the Palace of Hollyroodhouse, where it will remain overnight and into the evening on Monday.

Tens of thousands of people are expected on the route to the Scottish capital to pay their respects. There will be stops in the neighboring village of Balmoral, Aberdeen and Dundee.

When the coffin arrives in Edinburgh, just before Hollyroodhouse, it will be passed by Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and the rest of Scotland’s political leaders who will have lined up to pay their respects.

Tomorrow evening the coffin will be taken in a procession attended by King Charles and members of the royal family to St Giles’ Cathedral to lie overnight for Scots to pay their respects.

The coffin will be flown to London on Tuesday evening to lie in public until the funeral on Monday 19 September.
