“The spiritual radiance of the Holy Church of Saint Nicholas will be shed every day and every night in their honor as a perpetual tribute to their memory,” said the Archbishop of America

Memorial for the repose of the souls of the victims of her terrorist attack September 11th 2001 in the Twin Towers, an attack that changed the course of history, was carried out yesterday by Archbishop of America Elpidophoros at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, New York.

The Archbishop emphasized that “September 11 is a painful day, which will never be forgotten”, while underlining that “today we remember the lives of the people who lived, who were loved and who were so unjustly and so brutally lost before 21 years». He also pointed out that “all of us stand with the deepest respect on the side of the heroes of September 11, the firefighters, police, doctors and nurses who rushed to the Twin Towers to help and to save as many of their fellow human beings as they could. Countless are the stories of determination, bravery, courage and honor written in those tragic hours for humanity at the point of attack,” he added.

Archbishop Elpidophoros, moreover, underlined that “all of us together feel proud and deeply moved by Holy Church of Agios Nikolaos at Ground Zero, the national pilgrimage of the United States of America that was rebuilt from the ground up and that, last year, on the eve of September 11, was illuminated for the first time, as it was yesterday, and every night in the future it will be illuminated.”

“I.N. of Agios Nikolaos, he said, now stands as a beacon of hope and inspiration for every soul who enters the national pilgrimage and keeps the light of our faith burning. In fact, he continued, it has become the visual symbol of the most distinguished of all monuments of the human heart, as in a wonderful way it is essentially the cenotaph of all those who could not have a proper burial, because some in their bottomless hatred actually they refused. As we have all gathered together today to pray for the repose of their souls, we extend our deepest respect and heartfelt condolences to their families and friends and stand with all those who survived with our national pilgrimage always standing as a place of comfort, relief and, most importantly, of memory”.

And he concluded: “The spiritual radiance of the Holy Church of Agios Nikolaos will be diffused every day and every night in their honor as an eternal tribute to their memory.”
