Armenia and Azerbaijan blame each other for overnight clashes along the border.

A ceasefire deal brokered by Moscow collapsed less than an hour after it was reached this morning, although the intensity of hostilities has eased, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in a speech to parliament.

For its part, the Armenian Ministry of Defense announced that the intensity of the clashes on the Armenia-Azerbaijani border “reduced significantly” but the situation remains “extremely tense”.

“At 14:00 (13:00 Greek time) the situation remained extremely tense in some parts of the border (…) Despite a significant decrease in the intensity of shelling, the enemy continues its advance efforts,” the Armenian said in a statement Ministry of Defense.

The renewed escalation of hostilities between the two South Caucasus countries has sparked fears that a second all-out war could erupt in the post-Soviet world on top of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
