Sustainable transport: EU supports the development of alternative fuel infrastructure in 23 Member States with €292 million

The selected projects will accelerate the creation of the integrated network of hydrogen charging and refueling infrastructure necessary for the widespread use of low- and zero-emission vehicles for all modes of transport.

Yesterday the Commission selected 24 projects to be funded by the EU aimed at creating alternative fuel infrastructure. In total, they will receive around €292 million in EU grants under the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility to develop relevant infrastructure along the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) in 23 EU Member States.

Transport Commissioner Adina Valean said: “By investing €292 million, we will create approximately 5,700 charging points located at nearly 1,400 charging stations, as well as approximately 57 hydrogen refueling stations along the TEN-T network, within next three years. In line with the objectives of the European Green Deal and the need to increase the EU’s energy independence, the projects will contribute to the de-dependence of the European transport network from fossil fuels.”

The selected projects will accelerate the creation of the integrated network of hydrogen charging and refueling infrastructure necessary for the widespread use of low- and zero-emission vehicles for all modes of transport. The Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility combines CEF grants with support from financial institutions to increase the impact of investments.
