The newspaper Figaro in its tribute to Irini Papa characterizes her as a “great tragedy” whose “one enigmatic look was an entire scene”.

The French media on their websites have reported extensively since this morning on the death of Irene Papa.

The newspaper Liberation characterizes her as one of the most important Greek actresses of her generation, pointing out that she became popular internationally mainly from her film roles to Elektra and Zorba.

The newspaper notes that unlike Melina Merkouri who embodied “plebeian personalities”, Irini Papa exuded an urban “aristocratic grandeur” in her roles. In closing, the newspaper states that the political beliefs of Irini Papa were known and that she was a member of the KKE, while republishing a statement by Papa in Libération, in 1996, in which she said that “it is ridiculous to be asked for autographs … I neither like to admire nor to be admired” and that “if you vote you are alive, We are not gods. It is a political lesson that comes to us from the ancient theater».

The newspaper Figaro pher dedication to Irini Papa characterizes her as a “great tragedian” whose “one enigmatic look was a whole scene”.

It refers extensively to the international film career of the Greek actress, underlining however that “the depth of her performance” on stage allowed her to embody personalities drawn from Euripides and Homer. The newspaper also recalls that Irini Papa, presenting in Paris in 1980, together with Vangelis Papathanasiou, the album Odes, stated that her grandfather was a collector of folk songs, that she herself knew hundreds of them and that with this album they wanted to revive “the Greek soul and its traditions”.

The French newspaper reports that Irene Papa was more of a living legend and less of an international movie star.
