Xi and Putin meet on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Samarkand
Xi Jinping has assured Vladimir Putin that China intends to play the role of a “great power” alongside Russia.
“China is willing to work with Russia to shoulder its responsibilities as a great power, play a leading role, and introduce stability and positive energy into a world dominated by chaos,” the Chinese president said. Xi and Putin are meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Samarkand.
It is their first 4-a-4 since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Vladimir Putin told his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping that Moscow supports the “One China” policy, opposes the United States’ “provocations” in the Taiwan Strait and appreciates China’s “balanced stance” on Ukraine.
