An alleged member of the group involved in the October 2018 assassination of Saudi journalist Jamal Kasogi in Istanbul was arrested at Paris’ Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport on Tuesday and has been remanded in custody, court sources said.
Khalid Alotaibi, 33, was arrested as he was preparing to board a flight to Riyadh, a source close to the investigation said.
Alotaibi was detained as part of an international arrest warrant issued by Turkey. He will be taken to the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Paris Court of Appeals, who will inform him about the warrant and, according to Reuters sources, the process for his extradition to Turkey will begin.
Jamal Kasogi was assassinated inside his country’s consulate on October 2, 2018, by agents who went to Istanbul from Saudi Arabia. His body was never found.
Riyadh, after initially denying the killing, finally announced that Saudi agents had acted voluntarily. In a trial in Saudi Arabia, five defendants were sentenced to death and three others to prison terms. The death sentences were later commuted to life imprisonment.
