“There won’t be a better deal for Iran” regarding a possible deal on its nuclear program Tehranthe French Foreign Minister said today Catherine Colonnaon the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The minister did not rule out the possibility of a conversation between them French President Emmanuel Macron and his Iranian counterpart Ebrahim Raishi in New York. “We’ll see what this week brings,” he told reporters. “The window of opportunity appears to be about to close again” for a deal, Colona added, however.
“We keep repeating (…) that there will be no better proposal for Iran” and “it is up to Tehran to make a decision,” he continued.
In an interview with a US television network, Raisi said on Sunday that he wanted a “good and fair” deal, asking for “guarantees”.
Colonna presented the priorities of French diplomacy at the 77th UN General Assembly, which is being held “against a particularly serious situation”, due to the war in Ukraine.
Earlier today, the head of French diplomacy spoke with her Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, about the situation at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant. He said Macron would hold a working meeting on Wednesday to establish a safety zone around the nuclear plant, with the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency and Ukraine’s prime minister.
Colonna will also meet with her counterparts from China, India and Australia.
