Nearly six million people are on alert as authorities warn that in some areas fresh rain could cause severe flooding and landslides.
About 130,000 homes, most of which are in the Kyushu region, were still without electricity on Tuesday morning.
After its deadly passage over Japan, the typhoon has been downgraded to a tropical storm and is heading towards the Pacific Ocean.
