At least two people were killed and more than 100 injured as Typhoon Nanmadol swept through Japan on Monday, according to the fire and disaster management agency.

One of the victims was found inside his car which was submerged in the mud in a field in Miyakonojo city while the second victim died after a landslide occurred in Mimata district. Also, one more person is missing in Hiroshima Prefecture.

Nearly six million people are on alert as authorities warn that in some areas fresh rain could cause severe flooding and landslides.

About 130,000 homes, most of which are in the Kyushu region, were still without electricity on Tuesday morning.

After its deadly passage over Japan, the typhoon has been downgraded to a tropical storm and is heading towards the Pacific Ocean.
