Russia’s president on Wednesday morning declared his country’s first military service since World War II, heralding moves to annex occupied Ukrainian territory and even threatening to use nuclear weapons.
“Leaders condemned Putin’s recent belligerent rhetoric on Ukraine,” said a spokesman for Liz Truss, who became Britain’s prime minister two weeks ago.
He added that during the meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, Truss and Biden also agreed “to strengthen bilateral efforts to reduce energy dependence on Russia and increase the amount of renewable and other sources energy exported by democratic states”, said the representative of the Prime Minister of Britain.
