“I don’t know what has happened to Israel,” the Ukrainian president told French reporters.
The Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky stated during an interview published on Saturday that he was “shocked” by the fact that the Israel he did not send anti-missile defense systems to his country.
Mr. Zelensky recalled that he had requested such weapons systems shortly after the war with Russia broke out in late February. He specifically referred to the system Iron Dome, which is often used to intercept missiles and rockets launched from the Gaza Strip.
“I don’t know what has happened to Israel. Frankly, I’m shocked, I don’t understand why he can’t give us air defense systems”he said.
The head of state of Ukraine made the specific comments during an interview he gave to French journalists on Wednesday. His office released the recording of the interview yesterday.
Mr Zelensky’s remarks on the matter were even more scathing than those he made in March, when he lambasted the Israeli government for reluctance to send weapons. Then, the Israeli government refused to commit, however, assuring that he will help Kyiv as much as he can.
Israel, whose government has condemned the Russian invasion that began seven months ago, is concerned about upsetting the bilateral relationship with Russia, a major player in neighboring Syria, where Israeli forces often target pro-Iranian paramilitaries.
“I realize that — he’s in a difficult situation, considering the situation with Syria and Russia,” Mr. Zelensky continued, insisting that his purpose is not to accuse anyone.
“I am simply referring to the facts. My discussions with the Israeli leadership did not bring any results for Ukraine.” completed.
