Boris Johnson announced the transition to Government Plan B with additional restrictive measures in England to limit the spread of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.
In a press conference from Downing Street on Wednesday night, the British Prime Minister said that the Omicron variant is spreading faster than the Delta and the doubling time of the cases is believed to be between two and three days. He noted that 568 cases of the variant have already been detected and for this reason the “proportionate and responsible” move is to move to plan B, with the aim of slowing down the transmission of the virus.
So, the home work instruction is back for anyone who can, with effect from Monday.
From Friday, the obligation to use a mask extends to more covered areas, beyond retail stores and public transportation, such as theaters and cinemas, but not to restaurants.
The vaccination certificate is also adopted for entry into certain places, in particular nightclubs and other places with large crowds. The certificate will be required indoors with more than 500 spectators, outdoors with more than 4,000 seated spectators and in any other venue with more than 10,000 people, such as soccer fields.
They will be accepted, however, for those who do not have a vaccination certificate and a negative rapid antigen test. Two doses will be sufficient for the time being for the vaccination certificate, although it will be considered whether and when three doses will ever be required.
Mr Johnson also announced that contacts with confirmed coronavirus cases would be tested daily and would not be quarantined unless they tested positive.
Future decisions on restrictive measures, the British Prime Minister added, will be judged by four factors: the effectiveness of the vaccines, the severity of the symptoms of the Omicron variant, the rate of spread of the variant and the level of hospitalization.
Asked how he expects citizens to comply with the new measures when associates mocked the rules referring to the alleged downy party on Downing Street last Christmas, Boris Johnson reiterated that he understands the rage of the people but that it is understood by all. .
