“People were sleeping when the rockets fell. Imagine waking up in such a situation” commented a Ukrainian official

Video purportedly showing the chaos that ensued in Zaporizhia shortly after the bombardment by Russian missiles saw the light of day, with a residence destroyed, and its occupants shocked in clouds of dust.

“People were sleeping when the rockets fell. Imagine waking up in such a situation,” commented Ukrainian Interior Ministry official Anton Gerashchenko.

The regional governor in Zaporizhia, Ukraine, Oleksandr Starukh, announced in the early hours of the morning that Russian shelling in the city of the same name had hit homes, citing at least two dead and five trapped. A three-year-old girl was rescued from the wreckage.

The Zaporizhia region issued the following message

“Utmost attention!

There is a high probability of repeated missile attacks. Be careful.

Follow the safety rules.

Stay in shelters during air raids.

Take care of each other.”

Meanwhile, dozens of firefighters rushed to put out flames in a town near Kyiv on Wednesday after what local officials said were strikes by Iranian-made drones, often known as “kamikaze drones”.

Six drones hit a building overnight in Bela Chergva, about 75 kilometers south of Kyiv, Kyiv Oblast Governor Oleksiy Kuleba said.

Ukraine has reported a series of Russian strikes using Iranian-made Shahed-136 drones over the past three weeks, but the strike in Bela Chergva was by far the closest to the capital Kyiv.
