He announced it himself on social media
A prominent cultural figure of the time, Daniel Barenboim, announced that he was retiring from concerts for health reasons.
Shortly before his announcement on social media he had been honored with a Gramophone Award for his musical work.
“I am stepping back from some of my concert activities, especially my conducting duties, for the next few months,” he wrote. “My health has deteriorated in recent months and I have been diagnosed with a serious neurological condition. I now have to focus as much as possible on my physical well-being.” And he continues: “Music has always been and continues to be an essential part of my life. I have lived my whole life through music and will continue to do so as long as my health allows. Looking back as well as forward, I am not only satisfied but deeply fulfilled.”
As reported by the Guardian, the music director of the Berlin State Opera and Staatskapelle and founder of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, has canceled several concerts and tours in recent months due to health problems.
