Conflict in eastern Ukraine is escalating, but any provocations by Ukrainian authorities to settle the Donbas conflict by force will fail, Russian General Staff Chief Valery Gerasimov warned on Thursday.
“The delivery of helicopters, unmanned vehicles and aircraft to Ukraine is pushing the Ukrainian authorities to take sharp and dangerous steps. Kiev does not fulfill the Minsk Agreements. The Ukrainian armed forces say they have begun using US-supplied Javelin anti-tank systems in Donbas and are also using Turkish reconnaissance / strike aircraft. “As a result, the already tense situation in the east of this country is deteriorating further,” the Russian military chief warned, according to TASS.
“However, any challenge from the Ukrainian authorities to resolve the ‘difficulties’ in Donbass militarily will fail,” the Russian General Staff warned. According to Gerasimov, the propaganda campaign spread by the media about Russia’s alleged preparations for an invasion of Ukraine is a lie, while the military activity on Russian territory “does not require any warning”.
“NATO countries are paying too much attention to the movement of troops on Russian territory. The relocation of troops during combat training is
routine practice for the armed forces of any state. Military activity conducted on national territory does not require any notice. “The media reports about Russian alleged preparations for an invasion of Ukraine are false,” he said.
