Earlier the Russian Foreign Ministry had stated that these statements justify the “special military operation” in Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was referring to the imposition of sanctions on Russia when he proposed yesterday “preemptive strikes” against Moscow to prevent the Russian side from using nuclear weapons, his spokesman explained today.

Earlier today the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov he estimated that Zelensky’s statements during a debate organized yesterday Thursday by the Australian Lowy Institute confirmed the necessity of the “special military operation” launched by Moscow in Ukraine.

“Colleagues, you have gone a bit too far with your nuclear hysteria and now you are hearing nuclear strikes even when there are none,” Zelensky’s spokesman Serhiy Nikiforov stressed.

“The president was referring to the period up to (the Russian invasion of Ukraine) on February 24. It was then necessary to take preventive measures in order not to allow Russia to start the war. Let me remind you that the only measures we discussed then were preventive sanctions,” added Zelensky’s representative.

Nikoforov added that hints about the use of nuclear weapons “can only be made by the terrorist state of Russia. You will not hear such calls from Russia.”
