Dead 16-year-old protester in Iran – “She committed suicide by falling from a roof” authorities say

After Mahsha Amini’s official cause of death was “multiple organ failure resulting from brain surgery at the age of 8,” authorities in Tehran deny beating a 16-year-old protester to death, claiming the girl “fell from a rooftop.”

In particular, information posted on social media, reports on foreign networks and the NGO Amnesty International claim that Sarina Ismailzadeh – who participated in the protests against the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini – was killed by the security forces when they hit her in the head with a globe.

Iranian authorities deny these reports, saying that the 16-year-old protester committed suicide by falling from the roof of a five-story building and that “based on her mother’s reports, Ismailzadeh had made suicide attempts in the past.”

Earlier in the week authorities announced a similar cause of death – a fall from a roof – for a 17-year-old girl, Nika Sakarami, who activists say was killed while protesting Amini’s death.

Human rights groups say more than 150 people have been killed, hundreds injured and thousands arrested in the nationwide crackdown on protests.

Women play a primary role in them by taking off and burning their hijabs, while schoolgirls also participate in the protests.

Amnesty International said in a report on September 30 that Ismailzadeh was one of at least 52 people killed by security forces between September 19 and 25 and that the girl “died after being brutally beaten in the head with a globe.”

Earlier this week, state media reported that a case had been opened into the circumstances of Sakarami’s death, citing officials who say her death was not linked to the protests and that she fell from a rooftop and her body did not bear bullet wounds. .

Activists counter that the girl was killed in Tehran during a demonstration.
