The internet has been shocked by the post of an ophthalmologist from California, on Instagram, who, as she explains, removed 23 “forgotten” contact lenses from a patient’s eye.
Specifically, last month Katerina Kurteeva, an ophthalmologist from California, uploaded a video to Instagram showing her carefully removing several contact lenses from a patient’s eye.
As Kurteeva reveals, she had to remove exactly 23 old contact lenses that her patient, an elderly woman, had left in her eye for months, maybe years.
The doctor’s post went viral a few days ago, causing a chill but also a question as to how it is possible for someone to forget contact lenses, and indeed 23 in total, in his eye.
The video, captioned ‘Don’t sleep with your contact lenses on’, shows Dr Kurteeva using a q-tip to remove the lenses.
“A rare case where someone forgot to take out their contact lenses at night and kept putting new ones in every morning. For 23 consecutive days,” the doctor wrote in the caption that accompanied the video.
“I carefully separated all the contact lenses and counted a total of 23. I had to use a very fine surgical tool, a jeweler’s forceps to separate the contact lenses,” she wrote in a later Instagram post after the original video went viral.
