Trump: “Fiasco” the investigation into the attack on the Capitol

Refusing to say whether he plans to comply with the subpoena, Trump questioned why the committee had not subpoenaed him months ago.

Former US President Donald Trump has called the US House of Representatives subcommittee investigating the January 6, 2021 attack on Capitol Hill a “fiasco”, shortly after he voted unanimously to subpoena him to testify under oath about his role in the carnage Facts.

Refusing to say whether he plans to comply with the subpoena, Trump questioned why the committee had not subpoenaed him months ago. “Why did they wait until the last minute, until the last minutes of their last meeting? Because the commission is an absolute fiasco that only serves to further divide our country. And he’s doing it, by the way, very badly,” Trump wrote in a post on the social media platform Truth Social, which he created.

Under federal law, failure to comply with a subpoena to testify is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 12 months in prison. If the committee requests a subpoena and it is ignored, the full House will be asked to vote on whether to refer the case to the Justice Department to decide whether to press charges.
