“You have divided the country”, the vice-president of the center-left Democratic Party, Giuseppe Provenzano, answers her at the same time.
In her official written message, the president of Sisters of Italy Georgia Meloni referred today to the day of remembrance and the anniversary of the deportation of the Jews of Rome by fascist and Nazi troops.
In more detail, the Italian politician emphasized:
“October 16, 1943, for Rome and Italy is a tragic dark day, a wound that cannot be healed. That morning, a few minutes after 5 o’clock, the cowardly and inhuman displacement of Rome’s Jews took place at the hands of Nazi and Fascist brutality: women, men and children were violently uprooted from their homes, house by house. Over 1000 people were displaced and, of all of them, only one woman and fifteen men returned to Rome. Not even a child. A horror which should act as a warning so that such tragedies do not happen again. This memory we know belongs to all Italians and serves to produce antibodies against hatred and indifference. A memory that helps to fight anti-Semitism in all its forms.”
“You divided the country,” the center-left replies
The vice president of the center-left Democratic Party Giuseppe Provenzano for his part, a while ago he replied to Georgia Meloni that “this legislative period started in the worst possible way, with choices that weakened and divided the country and the conservative coalition”. “Let Meloni look to form a government and provide answers to the citizens if she is capable,” Provenzano added.
