The post of the French president on the death of Pierre Soulage
Pierre Soulages, the French abstract painter best known for his experiments with different shades of black, has died at the age of 102, the museum dedicated to his life and work has announced in his hometown of Rodez in southwestern France.
Soulage, who according to the head of the museum, Benoit Decron, died last night, Tuesday, in hospital, had worked exclusively with black since 1979, mainly with a series of works he called “Outrenoir” (“Beyond black”).

Born on Christmas Eve 1919, Pierre Soulage also created 104 stained glass windows that adorn the St. Foix church of Conk in southwestern France.

The president of France, Emmanuel Macron, with a post on twitter said goodbye to Soulaz, referring to the talent. “His works are living metaphors from which each of us derives hope,” Macron emphasized, among others.
