Bolsonaro is confident of his victory

“God willing, we will win tonight,” said Brazil’s outgoing president, Jair Bolsonaro, after casting his vote shortly after the polls opened.

“Or, even better, Brazil will win tonight,” added the far-right president, who appeared smiling and dressed in a yellow-green T-shirt in the colors of the country’s flag.

What Lula wished for

Luis Inacio Lula da Silva, the left-wing candidate and favorite for today’s presidential election in Brazil, cast his vote this morning near Sao Paulo, expressing his optimism for “the victory of democracy”.

Lula hoped the election, in which he faces outgoing far-right President Zaich Blosonaro, would help “restore peace among Brazilians” after a tense election campaign.

What do the polls show?

There are several polls that show how the match became more ambiguous in the last week with Bolsonaro recording a slight lead. Others show a small but steady advantage for Lula.

Bolsonaro did better than polls predicted in the first round held on October 2 among 11 candidates.

Polling firms said they had revised their methods based on that result, but most analysts said today’s round was still inconclusive.
