Podcast: Biden and Macron’s nods and Lula’s challenges in foreign policy

by

Shortly after being elected president of Brazil for the third time, Lula (PT) began to receive compliments from several international leaders – such as US Presidents Joe Biden and French Presidents Emmanuel Macron. The prompt recognition of the victory over Jair Bolsonaro (PL) came after the current president gave repeated signs that he might not accept the result of the polls.

Still during the campaign, the PT member repeated that the country became frowned upon on the international scene because of the Bolsonaro government. And, in Sunday’s victory speech, the president-elect said the country would leave the “sad role of the world’s pariah”.

This Thursday’s episode (3) of Café da Manhã talks with the columnist of Sheet Mathias Alencastro, who is a researcher at Cebrap and a professor at the Federal University of ABC. He explains the quick response of heads of state to Lula’s triumph, discusses the interests of these leaders in Brazil and analyzes the difficulties that the PT government may face in foreign policy.
