The non-governmental organization released a video of the last moments of this woman, Shirin Alizadeh. The footage, less than a minute long, was shot on September 21.

A 36-year-old Iranian woman has been shot dead while filming a police crackdown on protests in northeastern Iran, according to Amnesty International.

The non-governmental organization released a video of the last moments of this woman, Shirin Alizadeh. The footage, less than a minute long, was shot on September 21.

Shirin Alizadeh was in a car with her husband, who was driving, and two other people, who were not named, said Raha Bahraini, Amnesty International’s Iran researcher. “I hope they don’t shoot at the car,” Shirin can be heard saying in the video she shot on her mobile phone in the city of Salmansakhr, Mazandaran province, on the banks of the Caspian. Gunfire was heard in the background.

“They shot a woman, they killed a woman,” shouts one of the passengers in the vehicle as the shooting continues. “Video it!” Alizadeh tells him, and then the video cuts to an abrupt halt.

According to Amnesty, Alizadeh was hit in the neck and head and died at the hospital where she was taken. Bahraini said members of the Basij, a paramilitary militia linked to the Revolutionary Guards, were shooting “indiscriminately” at the protesters. “Shirin Alizadeh’s death certificate confirms that she was killed by a bullet,” the researcher added.

A memorial service to mark the 40th anniversary of her death will be held in her hometown of Isfahan on Friday. According to Amnesty, the authorities warned the victim’s family not to organize any ceremony that could turn into an anti-establishment demonstration. “The authorities forced the relatives to sign that they would not speak to the media. The family is very worried and fears that those who gather (tomorrow) will be targeted by the security forces,” Bahraini said.

Riots with one dead near Tehran

According to official Iranian media, a member of the Basij was killed and ten policemen and a cleric were injured today in clashes with protesters in western Tehran. The incidents took place near the Behest Sakineh cemetery, where a memorial service was underway for Hadith Najafi, a 22-year-old protester who was killed on September 21 in Karaj.

Fars news agency reported that Basiji member Ruhalah Ajazmi, 24, was attacked with knives and stones. His body was found, naked, on the side of a road.

Protesters blocked traffic on the Karaj-Gazvin highway and two policemen who were injured were airlifted to hospital. Along the way, protesters forced a priest out of his car and attacked him with knives, the agency added.

A Karaj security official said “the riots damaged several cars and security forces made several arrests.” By late afternoon “the situation had normalized,” Mehr news agency reported.
